We have to give a big 'high five' to WhatsApp for the
birth of the Fox & Mabel dream. The whole idea started
with a phone call in October 2018 and rapidly spiraled
into endless messages about colours and cushions
and scented candles.
We are Moira & Martha - the two halves that make up
our business of 'gorgeous'. We were introduced by the lovely Ros who owns the awesome Organised Company at the Tandem Bakery in Hereford at the start of 2016. Croissants were thrown (don't ask) and Fox & Mabel wasn't even a twinkle in either of our eyes. Look at us now! Below you'll find out lots of useless info about both of us that bears no relation whatsoever to our love of mugs and a good knitted throw!
The first thing you should know about Moira is that she HATES having her photo taken! In fact, rumour is this is the last time she happily posed for a snap! Wife to David who is punching well above his weight. Or so Moira keeps telling him!
What are you reading currently? I'd like to say something really highbrow and literary but the truth is it's probably a trashy beach read!
What’s the first concert you attended? Ummmmmmm The Monkees while working in Connecticut . I've been about a bit.
What was your first job? Delivering the Blackmore Vale Newspaper for a whopping £3 a week! I was only 12 so it felt l like a fortune!
What is your most-used emoji? Crying smiley face probably. Sent eleventy-billion times a day to Martha.
What was your favorite subject in school? History. And I did like English Lit. Both of those were probably because of amazing teachers.
If you had to eat one thing for every meal going forward, what would you eat? Martha's Gluten Free Chocolate Brownies, obvs. The CH makes a mean roast pork dinner with great crackling. Or I love a good bowl of chips. Or sliced tomato on an oat cake. Or really bad takeaway Sweet & Sour Prawn Balls. Or Peter Cooks Ledbury Loaf toast with butter. I've also been known to scoff the odd fish finger sandwich.
What's one thing about you that surprises people? That I'm actually really nice :-)
What does success mean to you? This. Right now.
Where is your happy place? Stowe in Vermont. We've been skiing there a few times and it's just the most gorgeous place. Stowe Mercantile is the business. I'd move there tomorrow. Going there isn't a frequent thing though so I'm equally happy sitting in an Adriondack chair with a glass of wine looking out across the fields beside our house.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time? I can't imagine never needing to sleep! But I'd love to think I'd have the willpower to train for an epic adventure that would be made into a NetFlix documentary.
At what job would you be terrible? Anything that requires any kind of patience!
Martha - Head Baker & Happiness Maker at Send Cake. Maker of the Best Chocolate Brownies in the World (verified by Moira's husband), mummy to Fraser and Ruby. Wife to the lucky Rob.
What are you reading currently? Oi Dog by Kes Gray, my daughter's favourite book. It's currently receiving at least a once daily going over. Welcome to my life.
What’s the first concert you attended? Now I feel old because I can't actually remember! I recall the most recent however, which was Take That. No, I'm not embarrassed to admit it. Gary Barlow is my future husband (he doesn't know it yet).
What was your first job? I spent the summer holidays when I was 13 waitressing in a tiny tea room called Muffins in Coleford, Forest of Dean.
What is your most-used emoji? Laughing face emoji, most often sent to Moira.
What was your favorite subject in school? Art. My parents despaired at the fact that I couldn't wait to leave school to do "just Art" at college, but I loved every minute of it. I don't get chance to do anything particularly arty nowadays, but I'm told the fact that I have a gazillion ideas on the go and can't focus on one thing for too long is because I'm creative - I'll go with that!!
If you had to eat one thing for every meal going forward, what would you eat? I'm obsessed with watermelon and feta salad at the moment, I might regret that decision come the winter though!
What's one thing about you that surprises people? Moira nearly fell off her chair when I told her I'd never really been to Ludlow.
What does success mean to you? Being 100% happy.
Where is your happy place? Mousehole in Cornwall, eating Moomaid ice cream with my kids.
If you didn’t have to sleep, what would you do with the extra time? RELAX! Life is too short to be on the go all of the time.
At what job would you be terrible? A spy. I can't keep a poker face for toffee.
